Art Gilbert's destiny seemed to be set from his earliest days as his name implies. His artistic abilities
were first recognized as a high school student when he won several poster contests. Upon graduation he received an art scholarship
to the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. He went on to major in art and social science. His
love of the abstract emerged in 1962 when he completed a series of clay sculptures and started a long series of abstract watercolor
paintings. In 1966 he worked full time as an artist. His agent Loren Gordon sold all of his abstract oil paintings
in the Berkley, California area. Family commitments interrupted his professional art endeavors but not his love
of learning. Over the next 20 yrs. he took additional art classes, extensive independent study, and continued with abstracts
in oils. From 1989 - 1996 he submerged himself into the modern technology of graphic art and worked as a graphic
designer and advertising manager for a large company in Santa Cruz, CA. The beginning of the next century saw
the development of ink introduced into his paintings and by 2004 his paintings consisted almost entirely of this medium. Now ink abstracts are his full time specialty. He resides in Taos, NM.
